State of New Mexico – Domestic Violence Prosecutor of the Year

District Attorney with Rebecca Duffin-State of New Mexico Domestic Violence Prosecutor of the Year

The Prosecutors section of the State Bar recognizes prosecutorial excellence through its annual awards.  We are very proud to announce that our very own Rebecca Duffin has been awarded the “Domestic Violence” Prosecutor of the year for the state of New Mexico

Rebecca is our VAWA grant prosecutor and exclusively prosecutes felony domestic violence cases along with supervising the Magistrate Court Unit domestic violence prosecutions. Ms. Duffin prosecutes nearly all of the felony domestic violence cases for the second most populous district in the state.  Domestic violence cases by their very nature are difficult to prosecute because of the relationship between the victim, the defendant and the time that passes between investigation and trial.

Ms. Duffin teaches the police academies for both the Sheriff’s Office and the Las Cruces Police Department about domestic violence investigation and adjudication, including the unique law that applies to both the arrest and the presentation of evidence at trial.  She also coordinates with probation officers and programs aimed at rehabilitation and meets with representatives from those organizations on a regular basis.

District Attorney Mark D’ Antonio stated, “Rebecca Duffin’s professionalism and care for the Victims of Domestic Violence in Dona Ana County are a prime example of the focus of the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.   Her hard work and dedication on prosecuting these extremely difficult cases, that have such a huge impact on the well- being of our children, our families, our community, is why we are so proud of her achievement”.
