DISTRICT ATTORNEY REVIEWING LCPD HOLDING CELL INCIDENT; REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM STATE POLICE & ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE

Las Cruces— On the afternoon of March 3, 2014 the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office was made aware of alleged misconduct by two Las Cruces Police Department officers.

LCPD is currently conducting an internal investigation of this matter. The matter is also under review by The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office, who has consulted with LCPD, as well as the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office. The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office has been in communication with the Attorney General’s Office and District Attorney Mark D’Antonio sent the Attorney General’s Office a formal request for assistance in assessing the matter. In addition, District Attorney D’Antonio has requested that New Mexico State Police conduct an independent investigation. The Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that the matter is under review, that their office will continue to monitor any investigation conducted, and will work with all parties involved.
