Ex-Taxi Cab Driver Faces 5½ Years Imprisonment

Darren Henry was found not guilty of attempted murder by a jury in district court yesterday, however, he was found guilty of aggravated battery and tampering with evidence.

Henry and long time girlfriend Leslie Sedillo regularly communicated regarding their daughter. Henry claims that James Narvaez, the then current boyfriend of Sedillo, frequently got in the middle of issues regarding Henry’s daughter. After an exchange of heated text messages on February 22, 2013 Henry told James Narvaez he was headed to Sedillo’s home. Henry claims Narvaez exited the home with what he believed to be a metal pipe, it was later identified as a piece of wood. There was another exchange of words ending in Henry shooting Narvaez 6 times with a semi-automatic gun in the lower extremities.

After the verdict was read Henry was immediately taken into custody and detained at the Dona Ana County Detention Center to await sentencing at a date yet to be determined. Though the victims were visibly upset with the verdict they and their families praised the diligent effort presented by Assistant District Attorney’s Heather Chavez and RoxeAnne Esquibel in representing their case.
