LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Today, District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a judge has sentenced a Las Cruces man convicted of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a first-degree felony, to 18 years in prison.
In 2012, Oscar Oropeza, now 36, was staying at a friend’s house in Las Cruces when he molested his friend’s 10-year-old daughter.
D’Antonio applauded prosecutors for the outcome and said, “I hope today’s outcome gives the victim and her family some closure. No child should have to go through what she did.”
In addition to the 18-year prison sentence, the defendant will serve five years on supervised probation and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
