LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Today, District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a grand jury has indicted a Mesilla Park man charged with sexually assaulting two young family members.
Alfonso Jimenez Sr., 78, was recently indicted on two counts of criminal sexual penetration, both first-degree felonies. He was also indicted on one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the third degree.
According to detectives with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department, Jimenez was arrested last month at his home in Mesilla Park. Authorities said he allegedly engaged in sexual acts with two female family members who were both under the age of 12 when the crimes happened.
D’Antonio said “Protecting the children of Doña Ana County needs to be everyone’s top priority. If convicted as charged, the defendant could face substantial time behind bars and would have to register as a sex offender.”
The defendant faces 18 years in prison for each first-degree felony, 15 years behind bars for the second-degree felony and six years of incarceration for the third-degree felony.
