NO BOND SET FOR SUSPECT IN STABBING

Las Cruces—Jose Luis Salazar, 17, was arraigned in Magistrate Court today for fatally stabbing 20-year old Carlos Adrian Contreras.

Salazar entered a plea of not guilty but Magistrate Court Judge Conrad Perea found probable cause for the 1st degree Murder charge and set a no bond for Salazar. The case will now be bound over to District Court.

Due to the offense Salazar is considered a “serious youthful offender” and will face charges as an adult. The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office will seek indictment by a Third Judicial District Court Grand Jury.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 6, 2015, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 7500 block of El Centro in response to a report of a man who had been stabbed. After deputies rendered aid, the victim was airlifted to an El Paso area hospital but passed away during surgery.
