Agencies as far as Alamogordo and T or C participated in the National Peace Officers Memorial today at the Las Cruces Convention Center. President Kennedy declared May 15th and the calendar week it falls in annually as “Police Week”.
Over the last year 117 officers have been lost in the line of duty, 47 of which were gunshot wounds. Already in 2015 there have been 44 line of duty deaths, 10 of which were due to gunshot wounds. Those statistics do not account for the assaults or the number of those who survived gunshot wounds or who were targeted merely due to the uniform they bare.
We at the district attorney’s office mourn those lost and pray all members of our local and national law enforcement agencies remain safe as they carry out their vow to keep our community safe.
