DA Fernando Macias Announces Successful Prosecution of Oscar Sandoval in First-Degree Murder Case

Doña Ana County, NM – District Attorney Fernando Macias today announced the successful prosecution of Oscar Renee Sandoval for the first-degree murder of Shiereen Al-Jibury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon toward a witness. The case marks a significant achievement for justice in the community, highlighting the dedication and effectiveness of the prosecution team.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorneys Melissa García and Spencer Wilson, who worked tirelessly to ensure justice was served.

On April 1, 2024, Shiereen Al-Jibury’s tragic death shook the community. According to witness testimony, Al-Jibury ran in front of a passing vehicle, motioning for the driver to call 911. The defendant, Oscar Renee Sandoval, pursued and fatally attacked her before threatening the witness and fleeing the scene. The victim’s vehicle was later located in Sunland Park, and an intensive investigation led to Sandoval’s apprehension in Mexico.

Sandoval was apprehended through the collaborative efforts of Mexican authorities and the Mesilla Marshal’s Office. He was handed over to law enforcement in Santa Teresa.

“It’s a good day for justice. Our hearts go out to everybody who was affected by this horrible act,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Melissa García.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Spencer Willson echoed this sentiment, stating, “I’m so thankful that we were able to get justice for the community and the families that were touched by this tragedy.”
