Gabriel Jordan is sentenced in a high-speed chase with Police Officers in a stolen vehicle encounter.

August 2, 2024 I Las Cruces – Third Judicial District Attorney Gerald M. Byers announced today that Gabriel C. Jordan, 31, of Las Cruces, was held without bond in a Pre-Trial Detention Hearing on 6 charges; 1 count of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault upon a Peace Officer, 2 counts of Aggravated Battery upon a Peace Officer, 1 count of Voluntary Manslaughter.

On April 14, 2023 – Las Cruces police officers were dispatched to 330 Richard Dr. #7 for a body lying nearby the roadway and a stolen van.  A Law Enforcement alert went out for a red dodge minivan, the minivan was spotted by two LCPD patrol officers.  In an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, the driver fled the area at a high rate of speed.  Both officers pursued the vehicle through the streets of Las Cruces, with the van striking the police vehicle twice.  Jordan continued to drive erratically thru the streets of Las Cruces into the parking lot of Mesilla Valley Mall when one of the police vehicles was able to use a PIT maneuver to stop the van.

Upon further investigation it was determined that Jordan had seen the victim outside of his residence with the minivan’s door open.  Jordan got into the vehicle, backed up, taking the minivan.  According to a statement by Jordan, during the course of leaving in the van, he felt a bump, but wasn’t sure what it was and continued to drive away in the vehicle.

The victim was found deceased with tire tracks on his body.   Jordan was found to be a danger to the community, with Third District Court Judge Jaquez citing “putting numerous lives at stake” and that no conditions can reasonably be fashioned to assure the appearance of the defendant.  Jordan has unsuccessfully completed probation on 3 separate cases.  Jordan is being held without bond in the Doña Ana County Detention Center awaiting trial.
