Oscar Sandoval sentenced to life, plus 4.5 years following his conviction for first-degree murder

Doña Ana County, NM – February 25, 2025

District Attorney Fernando Macias announced the sentencing of Oscar Renee Sandoval to life in prison, plus an additional 4.5 years, following his conviction for the first-degree murder of Shiereen Al-Jibury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon towards a witness. This sentencing marks a significant victory for justice and a step toward closure for the victims loved ones and community.

On April 1, 2024, Shiereen Al-Jibury’s tragic death shocked the community. According to witness testimony, Al-Jibury ran in front of a passing vehicle, motioning for the driver to call 911. Sandoval pursued her and fatally attacked her before threatening a witness and fleeing the scene.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Melissa García stated that during sentencing, the court imposed a life sentence for first degree murder. Additionally, Sandoval was sentenced to 18 months for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon plus a 3-year firearm enhancement, to run consecutively with the life sentence – resulting in life in prison plus 4.5 years.
