Gustavo Dominguez Sentenced to 90 Years in Prison for Deadly Young Park Shooting
Las Cruces, NM – The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that Gustavo Dominguez was sentenced to 90 years in prison for his role in the 2025 Young Park mass shooting that killed three people and injured several others.
“Gustavo Dominguez acted without any remorse, without any hesitation and with a blatant disregard for human life,” said District Attorney Fernando Macias.
Dominguez, 18, was 17 years old at the time of the shooting and was prosecuted under the New Mexico juvenile code, which means he will be eligible for parole in 25 years.
The family of Dominick Estrada, one of the victims killed in the shooting, addressed the court and Dominguez during the sentencing hearing.
“We will never get to see him walk through the doors with his big, beautiful smile. We will never get to hug him,” said Dominick Estrada’s family. “You shattered an entire family and deserve life behind bars.”
Dominguez is one of four defendants convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting and is the second defendant to be sentenced. In August, Tomas Rivas also received three consecutive life sentences, totaling 90 years, for his role in the shooting.
Sentencing for Josiah Ontiveros is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2026, and Nathan Rivas is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026. Macias is seeking 90-year sentences for the two remaining defendants.
“We are committed to seeking justice for all the lives that were taken and the families whose lives were forever changed,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Spencer Willson. “Our office will continue to pursue accountability for those responsible.”
These cases were prosecuted by Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando Macias and Chief Deputy District Attorney Spencer Willson and investigated by the Las Cruces Police Department.
