February 23, 2024 I District Attorney Gerald Byers was asked to be a guest speaker at two Martin Luther King events in the month of February.   The first was held on February 9th at Homeland Security Investigation [HIS] Headquarters-El Paso sector.  Byers was one of 4 panelists who were invited to speak, all panelists were recognized for their achievements, contributions, and resilience.   District Attorney Byers was joined by Emerson Buie; Retired Special Agent in Charge, and Albert J. Mays, Jr.; President of MLK Committee, El Paso chapter.

On February 13th, District Attorney Byers addressed our military partners at White Sands Missile Range in their observance of MLK Jr. Day.  With his unique military background, DA Byers was able to speak about the impact that Dr. Martin Luther King had on his life; his military career, and the challenging and positive changes that he has witnessed in his years of public service.

On February 16th, District Attorney Byers was asked to represent local law enforcement and criminal prosecution as a panelist for the Las Cruces Leadership Class – Public Safety Day.  Byers, along with representatives from the NM Office of the Attorney General, FBI and the US Marshals Service answered questions about public safety issues that are impacting our community.  The primary objective of the Leadership Las Cruces class participants is to identify and connect with community stakeholders and learn from their varied backgrounds and experience as dedicated public servants.
